Teacher Retirement System of Texas
Rule Review Plan

In accordance with the Appropriations Act, Section 167, the Teacher Retirement System of Texas adopts the following plan for review of the TRS Rules:

TRS Rules are contained in Title 34 of the Texas Administrative Code, Part III. There are approximately 16 chapters covering the odd numbered chapters from Chapter 21 through Chapter 51. The agency will have an initial review by the Policy Committee of TRS. Approximately 5 or 6 chapters will be reviewed per meeting during 1998-99. Public comments may be made prior to or at the posted meetings. The Policy Committee's review will include an assessment of whether the reasons for adopting the various rules continues to exist. The Policy Committee generally meets on a Thursday prior to each Board meeting. Once the initial review is completed by the Policy Committee, a notice of intention to review will be filed with the Texas Register. For a 30 day period, TRS will accept any additional comments on whether the rules should be readopted. Following the comment period, the complete Board, at a posted meeting, will determine whether the rules should be repealed, readopted, or amended. The final review i anticipated to be completed by August of 1999.

All comments and/or questions should be directed through Charles L. Dunlap, Executive Director, Teacher Retirement System of Texas, 1000 Red River, Austin, Texas 78701, (512) 397-6400.
