Texas Presidential Electors Meet, Cast Electoral Votes for President and Vice President of the United States

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Presidential Electors met today to cast their Electoral College votes for the 2012 election of President and Vice President of the United States. All of Texas’ 38 Electoral Votes were cast for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
“Today’s meeting fulfills Texas’ role in the Electoral College process and officially brings the 2012 election to a close,” said Secretary Steen. “I want to thank the nearly eight million voters who made their mark on Texas by participating in this year’s November General Election and the thousands of election workers who work hard all year long to conduct elections that are fair, accessible and secure for our great state.”
The set of elector candidates that is elected is the one that corresponds to the candidates for president and vice-president receiving the most votes (Texas Election Code, Sect. 192.005). Political parties choose their respective sets of electors in accordance with state law and each party’s rules.
Electoral Votes are allocated to states based on the most recent census. Only California has more Electoral Votes, at 55, than Texas.
