Carlos Cascos confirmed as Texas Secretary of State

AUSTIN — Today, Carlos Cascos received Senate confirmation to serve Texas as the 110th Secretary of State.

“I want to thank Gov. Abbott for his appointment and Sen. Lucio for supporting my nomination,” said Cascos. “It is a privilege and an honor to serve the great State of Texas as Secretary of State.”

Among the many duties of the office, the Texas Secretary of State serves as Chief Election Officer and Chief International Protocol Officer for the state. Additionally, the Secretary is the senior advisor and liaison to the Governor for Texas border and Mexican affairs.

The Office of the Texas Secretary of State provides a repository for many official business and commercial records required to be filed with the state. The office also publishes government rules and regulations and commissions notaries public. Over the years, the office’s connection to the business community has expanded the role of Secretary of State to serve as an economic ambassador for Texas.

“It’s an especially exciting time to become Secretary of State as Texas continues to lead the nation in economic growth and international trade,” said Cascos.

Not new to public service, Cascos was elected as Cameron County Judge in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010 and 2014. He previously served on the Texas Public Safety Commission and as a Cameron County Commissioner from 1991 through 2002.

Born in Mexico, Cascos immigrated to the United States as a child and became a permanent resident and citizen during adolescence. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

Cascos is a Certified Public Accountant. He and his wife, Aurora Candida G. Cascos, have two daughters, Casandra and Andrea.

A date for Cascos’ swearing-in has not yet been finalized.
